    The study introduced a fast and non-invasive photoacoustic imaging technique to measure follicle density and angles, which are crucial for hair transplant procedures like FUE and FUT. This method addressed limitations of the traditional photographic examination by detecting subdermal hair and follicle orientation. The researchers demonstrated that hair significantly contributes to the photoacoustic signal and successfully measured follicle density in regions of varying density, even when follicles were not visible to the eye. The technique involved handheld imaging to create 3D images and effectively removed background dermis signals. The results showed a high correlation (R² = 0.96) between photoacoustic imaging and photographic determination of follicle density. Additionally, the study measured subdermal follicular angles, which are important for reducing transection rates in FUE.
