TLDR Using topical steroids for acne is a bad idea and can worsen skin problems.
The study conducted at Pakistan Railway Hospital in 2012 investigated the use of topical steroids among 110 acne vulgaris patients, aged 13-35. It found that 62% of these patients used topical steroids, with betamethasone valerate being the most common. The study highlighted that the use of topical steroids for acne was a misconception, as it was associated with various side effects. These included aggravation of acne lesions (36%), perioral dermatitis (24%), telangiectasias (16%), increased facial hair growth (14%), tinea incognito (6%), and acne rosacea (4%). The findings emphasized the inappropriate use of topical steroids in acne treatment due to these adverse effects.
