TLDR Sandalore®, a synthetic scent, reduced hair loss and improved hair growth in women with telogen effluvium.
The document reports on a clinical trial that investigated the effects of Sandalore®, a synthetic sandalwood-like odorant, on women suffering from telogen effluvium, a form of hair loss. The double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial included 60 female volunteers, with 30 in the treatment group using a solution containing 1% Sandalore® and 30 in the placebo group using natural sandalwood oil. Over 24 weeks, the treatment group experienced significantly reduced hair shedding, increased hair volume, and a higher percentage of anagen (growth phase) hair follicles compared to the placebo group. Hair thickness and density were not significantly affected. The positive effects were mostly observed after 8 weeks and sustained through week 24. Patients in the treatment group reported greater satisfaction with their hair appearance and overall results. This study provided evidence that topical application of an odorant like Sandalore® can have a beneficial impact on hair growth and may serve as an adjunct therapy for hair disorders characterized by excessive hair shedding.
