TLDR Indian head cactus extract may help hair grow by boosting important cell activity and gene expression.
The research by Takahiro Hirabayashi and his team explored the impact of Indian head cactus (Parodia ottonis ssp. ottonis) extract on human follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPCs). They discovered that the cactus extract significantly boosted cell proliferation and triggered the mRNA expression of hair growth-related genes, such as FGF-7 and VEGF. This implies that the cactus extract could stimulate HFDPCs and promote hair growth, suggesting its potential as a new hair growth therapy. However, more human studies are required to evaluate the safety and risks of cactus extract.
