TLDR Acneform reactions after laser hair removal occur in 6% of cases, mostly mild and short-lived, with higher risk in younger patients, those treated with Nd:YAG laser, and individuals with darker skin.
This study aimed to assess the incidence of acneform reactions following laser hair removal, considering factors such as skin type, laser type, treatment site, PCOS history, age, and sex. Conducted as a multi-centre prospective study, data were collected via questionnaires completed by treatment staff. The overall incidence of acneform reactions was 6%. Significant findings included a higher likelihood of reactions in younger patients, those treated with the Nd:YAG laser, and individuals with Fitzpatrick skin type V. PCOS history, number of prior treatments, use of aloe vera cooling gel, and patient sex did not significantly affect the incidence. Most reactions were mild and short-lived.
