TLDR A JAK inhibitor improved both severe hair loss and chronic skin disease in one patient.
A 22-year-old man with alopecia universalis (AU) and moderately severe atopic dermatitis (AD) showed significant improvement in both conditions after 10 months of treatment with the JAK inhibitor tofacitinib. The patient, who had not responded to multiple previous treatments, experienced hair regrowth and reduced itch severity without adverse effects. This case highlighted the potential of tofacitinib to simultaneously treat multiple inflammatory skin disorders by inhibiting cytokine pathways involved in both AU and AD. The findings suggested a personalized medicine approach could be beneficial for managing complex inflammatory conditions.
