TLDR Alopecia significantly impacts mental health and quality of life, requiring psychological support.
The study assessed the impact of alopecia on quality of life, depression, and self-esteem among 231 participants in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Results showed that 52.4% of participants experienced higher levels of depression, and 18.2% reported a moderate or greater effect on their lives, particularly those with hereditary baldness. Factors such as younger age, being female, being married, having lower income, and hereditary baldness were significantly associated with higher depression levels. As age increased, depression levels decreased, and self-esteem scores increased. The study concluded that alopecia significantly affects mental health and quality of life, emphasizing the need for psychological support and counseling for affected individuals.
