TLDR Hyperthyroidism can hide signs of high androgen levels in females.
This study reported on non-obese triplet sisters who exhibited hyperandrogenism, severe acne, hirsutism, and alopecia from an early age. One sister, who also had hyperthyroidism, showed significantly lower androgen levels and less hirsutism compared to her siblings. After treating her hyperthyroidism with radioiodine ablation, her androgen levels increased, and hirsutism worsened. This suggested that hyperthyroidism could mask the biochemical and clinical signs of hyperandrogenism in susceptible females.
