TLDR Older men with high total testosterone might not show symptoms, while younger men with hyperandrogenism may experience hair loss or acne.
The study "ОСОБЕННОСТИ ГИПЕРАНДРОГЕНИИ У МУЖЧИН" investigated the characteristics of hyperandrogenism in men, a topic previously understudied compared to women. The study involved 100 men with laboratory-confirmed elevated levels of testosterone and/or dihydrotestosterone. The participants were divided into four groups based on their hormonal status. The study found that older men with elevated total testosterone levels may not have increased free testosterone levels and may not show clinical symptoms. Younger patients with hyperandrogenism showed different clinical manifestations: those with elevated dihydrotestosterone levels typically had androgenic alopecia (93%), while men with elevated total and free testosterone levels typically had acne, which was exacerbated by increased dihydrotestosterone.
