TLDR Two women lost hair after mesotherapy for hair loss, with one having permanent and the other temporary hair loss.
In a 2009 report, two women experienced patchy alopecia following mesotherapy treatments for androgenic alopecia. The first, a 32-year-old, received injections containing mesoglycan and developed an erythematous patch of alopecia, paraesthesias, trichodynia, and hair loss, with a marked decrease in hair density and almost no terminal anagen hair follicles on biopsy. After 3 months, she had residual scarring alopecia. The second, a 22-year-old, had four sessions with a homeopathic solution and developed erythematous patches of alopecia. Biopsy showed a prominent decrease in hair density, increased catagen follicles and telogen germinal units, and dilated infundibular ostia. She experienced complete hair regrowth after 7 months. The cause of hair loss was unclear, and no previous reports of alopecia associated with mesoglycan were found in medical databases.
