TLDR A 308 nm excimer laser successfully treated a boy with a rare skin condition after about a year of weekly sessions.
In 2018, a case study was reported where a 10-year-old Korean boy with hypopigmented mycosis fungoides (HMF), a rare variant of mycosis fungoides characterized by hypopigmented patches and erythematous papules, was successfully treated with 308 nm excimer laser therapy. The treatment was administered once a week and led to the clearance of lesions and repigmentation after approximately 1 year, with a mean fluence of 340 mJ/cm² and a total cumulative dose of 17.7 J/cm². The study suggested that the 308 nm excimer laser could be a good treatment option for HMF with limited distribution, as it avoids unnecessary ultraviolet radiation exposure to unaffected sites. However, the authors noted that larger comparative randomized trials are needed to confirm these findings.
