TLDR The herbal hair gel with Eclipta alba and Lippia nodiflora extracts was more effective at growing hair than the control gel and minoxidil.
In 2017, a study was conducted to assess the hair growth potential of a herbal hair gel containing extracts of Eclipta alba and Lippia nodiflora. The gel was applied to the shaved skin of black mice for 30 days. The study found that the gel formulations containing the extracts of E. alba and L. nodiflora, both alone and combined, significantly increased the rate of hair growth compared to a control gel. The most effective formulation was a combination of 5% E. alba and 5% L. nodiflora. This combination gel formulation was found to induce early telogen to anagen conversion of hair follicles, reducing hair growth initiation and completion time compared to control and minoxidil treated animals. The hair length was 3.6 mm at the end of the 30-day course, compared to 2.8 mm in the HG2, 2.4 mm in minoxidil and HG4, and 1.2 mm in control groups. The study concluded that the E. alba 5% + L. nodiflora 5% gel formulation showed the best hair growth activity compared with minoxidil.
