TLDR PrrH sRNA controls pyochelin gene expression in Pseudomonas aeruginosa based on heme levels.
This study investigates the role of the heme-responsive PrrH sRNA in regulating gene expression in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, particularly focusing on pyochelin siderophore biosynthesis, which is crucial for iron uptake. The research identifies that PrrH potentially regulates pyochelin synthesis by interacting with sequences upstream of the pchE mRNA. The study reveals that pyochelin synthesis proteins increase in prrH mutants, although mRNA levels remain unchanged in shaking cultures, but increase in static conditions. The findings suggest a novel link between heme availability and siderophore biosynthesis, emphasizing the importance of environmental conditions, such as light, in studying PrrH's function.
