A study by Yücesoy et al. examined the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in 72 pediatric patients with alopecia areata (AA) and their caregivers in Türkiye. The study found that children with AA face significant challenges, particularly with treatment and emotional distress, with a mean Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI) score of 8.4, comparable to other chronic skin conditions. Caregivers also reported high levels of sadness and anxiety, with parents of female patients experiencing more HRQoL issues. The study highlights the importance of understanding the impact of AA on both patients and caregivers to inform treatment and policy decisions. However, the HRQoL instruments used were not specifically validated for pediatric AA, indicating a need for further validation and assessment of health utilities in this population.
