TLDR Hair loss negatively affects self-esteem and identity.
The study explored the sociological impact of hair loss on two groups: women undergoing chemotherapy and men experiencing androgenetic alopecia. It highlighted that hair, as a visible and significant part of the body, plays a crucial role in self-perception and identity. The research found that both groups viewed hair loss predominantly as a negative or stigmatizing experience, affecting their self-esteem and social interactions. Despite the different reasons for hair loss, both groups employed various strategies to cope with it, such as wearing wigs or shaving remaining hair, to maintain dignity and manage the social implications of their condition.
