TLDR Hair transplantation successfully restored a woman's pubic hair with natural-looking results and few complications.
In 2007, Marco Toscani, MD, Paolo Fioramonti, MD, Antonio Rusciani, MD, and Nicolò Scuderi, MD, reported a case of a 41-year-old woman who underwent hair transplantation to restore her pubic area due to psychological distress caused by pubic hair thinning. The patient did not have any identifiable cause for her pubic alopecia. The surgical procedure involved transplanting follicular units from the scalp to the pubic area and labia majora under local anesthesia, using a total of 310 follicular units, with 100 units implanted on the labia majora. The surgery lasted 4 hours, and the patient was advised not to wash the area for 1 week post-operation. At the 1-year follow-up, the patient showed satisfactory results with natural curling of the transplanted hair. The case demonstrated that follicular unit transplantation is an effective technique for pubic hair restoration, providing natural and aesthetically pleasing results with minimal short-term complications.
