TLDR Diabetes can cause hair thinning, increased hair loss, and changes in hair growth phases.
The study investigated the correlation between scalp hair morphology, haematological parameters, and glycaemic status in 140 participants, including 70 diabetic individuals and 70 healthy controls. It found that diabetic individuals exhibited significant changes in hair characteristics, such as decreased thickness and tensile strength, increased hair loss, and altered growth phase distribution, with fewer hairs in the anagen phase (60% vs. 80%) and more in the telogen phase (28.57% vs. 8.57%). These changes are linked to systemic effects of diabetes, including microvascular issues and prolonged hyperglycaemia. The study also identified significant associations between poor glycaemic control, indicated by elevated FBS, PBS, and HbA1c levels, and altered hair morphology, along with notable haematological variations in the diabetic group.

community Testosterone and hair loss seeming irrelevance

The conversation is about the role of testosterone in hair loss and the effectiveness of different treatments. The conclusion is that DHT is the main culprit for hair loss, and finasteride has been proven to work long-term in maintaining and regrowing hair. Testosterone may have a minor effect, but it is not the primary cause of hair loss.
