TLDR Hair manganese may relate to cardiometabolic health, not coronary artery disease severity.
This exploratory pilot study involving 80 patients examined the relationship between hair manganese (Mn) levels and cardiometabolic status, rather than the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). The study found no significant association between hair Mn levels and CAD severity, as measured by SYNTAX and CASSS scores. However, a modest inverse correlation was observed between Mn levels and body mass index (BMI), suggesting a potential link between Mn homeostasis and cardiometabolic regulation. The findings indicate that hair Mn concentration may serve as a marker of cardiometabolic status rather than CAD severity, warranting further investigation in larger studies.
