TLDR Selenium exposure at work caused the worker's complete hair loss.
The document reported a case of a worker who developed alopecia universalis after 6 months of employment in a job involving the use of a selenium alloy in the manufacture and maintenance of photocopy machine drums. The study suggested that the hair loss was due to occupational selenium intoxication, as selenium intoxication is known to cause similar symptoms. Selenium levels in the blood and nails of the affected worker were measured and compared to those of other workers, supporting the conclusion of selenium exposure as the cause of the hair loss.
