TLDR Hair implants can cause infections, allergic reactions, itching, and scarring.
In 1981, a study was conducted on four men who underwent hair implantation for pattern baldness and experienced complications such as infection, foreign-body reaction, pruritus, and scarring. These complications were similar to those reported with synthetic modacrylic fiber implants used for the same purpose. The authors suggested that due to the illogical basis of the procedure, complications were likely to occur in many unsuspecting patients who undergo hair implantation.
