TLDR The best hair growth results were achieved with a hair tonic containing 5% gotu kola extract and 0.04% garlic extract.
This study aimed to determine the optimal concentration of a combination of gotu kola herb extract (Centella asiatica) and garlic extract (Allium sativum) for stimulating hair growth. The extracts contain compounds such as asiaticoside, flavonoids, and alkaloids, which are believed to promote hair growth. An initial application on 3 male rabbits for 28 days using a combination of 1.25% gotu kola extract and 100 ppm garlic extract resulted in significant hair growth. Subsequently, three different hair tonic formulas were developed: F1 (2.5% gotu kola and 0.02% garlic), F2 (2.5% gotu kola and 0.04% garlic), and F3 (5% gotu kola and 0.04% garlic). The F3 formula showed the best results, with a hair growth of 28.62 mm, a growth rate of 1.057 mm/day, and hair weight of 28.84 mg. The F3 hair tonic was also found to be stable for 3 months at both 25°C and 40°C.
