TLDR EtG levels in hair decrease significantly after one month of alcohol abstinence.
The study investigated changes in ethyl glucuronide (EtG) levels in hair during an ethanol-abstinent period among 27 patients from an alcohol treatment clinic. Hair samples were collected at two time points: immediately after hospitalization (T1) and after one month of abstinence (T2). The median EtG concentration significantly decreased from 100 pg/mg at T1 to 53.4 pg/mg at T2, with a median change of -46.0% (p = 0.003). The findings suggested a decrease in EtG levels in hair segments over time, potentially due to wash-out effects or other factors, warranting further research.
