TLDR Improving maternal diets can prevent severe health issues, including death, from goiter in goat kids.
The study on 44 cross-breed goat kids in Basrah, Iraq, identified iodine deficiency as a primary cause of goiter, with symptoms including enlarged thyroid glands, alopecia, and slow growth. Affected kids had elevated TSH and reduced T3, T4, and other vital nutrients, indicating hypothyroidism. The research underscores the necessity of iodine supplementation in maternal diets to prevent goiter and associated health issues in offspring, noting that environmental factors can worsen iodine deficiency.
