TLDR GnRH agonist effectively diagnoses and treats postmenopausal hyperandrogenism from ovarian sources.
The study discusses the use of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool for postmenopausal hyperandrogenism of ovarian origin. A 71-year-old female with hirsutism and acne was treated with GnRH agonist, resulting in a significant reduction in testosterone levels (98.6% reduction) and clinical improvement, confirming the ovarian source of androgen excess. The study concludes that GnRH agonist can be a valuable tool for evaluating and conservatively treating postmenopausal hyperandrogenism, especially for patients who are not candidates for surgery.
