TLDR Ginsenosides Rb₁ and Rd may help prevent hair loss by promoting hair cell growth.
The study investigated the effects of ginsenosides Rb₁ and Rd from Panax ginseng on hair loss by applying them to the shaved skin of B57CL/6 mice for 35 days. Results showed that these ginsenosides increased cell proliferation in both the anagen and telogen phases of hair follicles but did not significantly affect cell survival in the bulge and upper follicle regions. The up-regulation of p63 expression in the matrix and outer root sheath was identified as a potential mechanism for this increased proliferation. The findings suggested that ginsenosides Rb₁ and Rd could be developed as therapeutic agents for preventing hair loss.
