TLDR Selenium exposure at work caused the worker's complete hair loss.
A worker involved in the manufacture and maintenance of drums for photocopy machines developed alopecia areata, which progressed to alopecia universalis after 6 months of employment. This case was linked to occupational selenium intoxication, as selenium exposure is known to cause similar symptoms. Selenium levels in the worker's blood and nails were measured and compared to those of other workers, confirming the diagnosis of alopecia universalis due to selenium exposure.
