TLDR Few dermatology programs mention gender-affirming care, highlighting a need for better training and visibility.
The study analyzed 141 dermatology residency program websites in the U.S. to assess their participation in gender-affirming care (GAC) for transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) patients. Only 22 programs (15.6%) mentioned involvement in GAC, highlighting a significant gap in resident education on gender minority health. Many programs are affiliated with institutions offering multidisciplinary GAC clinics but do not advertise their involvement, possibly due to legal or scrutiny concerns. The study suggests that programs could enhance visibility by updating websites to reflect GAC services and collaborations, which could improve recruitment and patient care. The research underscores the need for improved training and visibility of GAC in dermatology education.
