TLDR The LGBT-focused curriculum improved dermatology residents' confidence in treating LGBT patients.
The document outlines the creation and assessment of an LGBT-focused curriculum for dermatology residents, which aimed to enhance their cultural competency and knowledge of LGBT patient care. Initially, residents felt their training in this area was inadequate. The curriculum included two interactive lectures on dermatologic conditions affecting LGBT individuals. Following the curriculum, the 20 residents who attended the first lecture and the 21 who attended the second reported increased confidence in treating LGBT dermatologic issues. The curriculum proved effective in the short term, with a 100% survey response rate, highlighting the need for such educational programs to reduce healthcare disparities. However, the study acknowledged limitations like response bias and the lack of data on long-term knowledge retention and practical application.
