Functional Annotation of Genes Underlying Hair Disorders

    Rachel K. Severin, Lynn Petukhova
TLDR The study identified key genes and pathways linked to hair disorders, aiding precision medicine.
The study identified and functionally annotated 489 genes associated with hair disorders, revealing that 479 of these genes significantly enriched 545 pathways. Notably, 128 genes were linked to the development of non-skin tissues, 27 to drug response, and 26 to cellular metabolic processes. Pathway analysis highlighted 85 functional pathways enriched by 184 genes, with 87 genes involved in cancer pathways and 57 in pathogen response pathways. Additionally, 18 genes were active in stem cell pluripotency signaling pathways. The study emphasized that genes sharing GO annotations or pathways had more similar phenotypic effects, providing a valuable resource for precision medicine in skin and hair disorders.
