TLDR Increased sunscreen use may be linked to frontal fibrosing alopecia in Hispanic females.
This case-control study investigated the association between frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) and contact allergens in skincare products among 36 Hispanic females, comprising 18 FFA patients and 18 controls. The study found that sunscreen use was significantly higher in FFA patients (83.3%) compared to controls (44.4%), with a p-value of 0.035. Although 83.3% of FFA patients and 55.5% of controls had at least one positive allergen reaction, the difference was not statistically significant. The study suggested that increased sunscreen use and contact allergies might play a role in FFA, but the etiopathogenesis remains unclear, highlighting the need for further research. Limitations included a small sample size and potential recall bias.
