TLDR Nearly 70% of postmenopausal women in Saudi Arabia experience hair loss, often linked to early menopause, chronic diseases, family history, and stress.
This study investigated the prevalence and factors associated with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) in postmenopausal women in Saudi Arabia, involving 385 participants. It found that 69.9% of the women experienced hair thinning or loss, primarily affecting the frontal scalp within 1–2 years after menopause. Significant associations were identified between FPHL and early menopause, chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension, family history, and high stress levels. Despite the high prevalence, only 30.1% sought medical advice, with many preferring natural remedies. FPHL was also linked to reduced self-confidence and impaired social interactions, underscoring the need for increased awareness and early intervention.
