TLDR Korean adolescents with androgenetic alopecia often have a family history, milder symptoms than adults, and normal hormone levels.
This study evaluated androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 43 Korean adolescents over a 5-year period, focusing on clinical manifestations and endocrine status. The study found a male predominance (35 males to 8 females) with a mean onset age of 16.8 years. Adolescents exhibited milder symptoms compared to adults, and 72.1% had a family history of alopecia, higher than the adult range of 30.9-64.5%. Seborrheic dermatitis was the most common condition associated with AGA, followed by acne vulgaris and atopic dermatitis. Hormone levels were normal except in one case, highlighting the clinical characteristics of AGA in this demographic.
