TLDR Many Korean women with female-pattern hair loss have reduced hair density at the temples.
The study evaluated temporal involvement in 27 Korean women with female-pattern hair loss (FPHL) using the BASP classification, adding a specific type T for temporal involvement (T1: mild, T2: moderate, T3: severe). Results showed that 48% of patients had temporal involvement, with 12 classified as T1 and 1 as T2. There was a significant correlation between T grade and temporal hair density (p=0.042). The temporal/occipital (T/O) ratio of total hair density was 0.72, and the T/O and frontal/occipital (F/O) ratios were positively correlated (r=0.502, p=0.008). The study suggested a decrease in temporal hair density compared to occipital hair density in some FPHL patients and recommended adding type T to the BASP classification.
