TLDR Finasteride reduces prostate bleeding by affecting blood vessel growth.
This study investigated the effects of finasteride on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in human benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) tissue. The results showed that finasteride decreased the expression of VEGF in BPH tissue, but did not significantly affect microvessel densities or serum VEGF levels. The study suggests that finasteride may reduce prostate bleeding in BPH patients by affecting local angiogenesis and the associated increase in vascular permeability.
