TLDR The process to make finasteride is simple, cheap, and gives a good amount.
The study focused on the synthesis of finasteride from pregnenolone acetic ester using a series of chemical reactions, including hypobromous acid oxidation, methanol esterification, Oppenauer oxidation, and the Bodroux reaction. The overall yield of the synthesis was 36.5%. The researchers concluded that the materials used were inexpensive, the process was simple, the cost was low, and the yield was satisfactory.
