TLDR Finasteride-coated microneedles effectively deliver the drug with minimal scalp damage and high stability.
The study focused on the formulation and design of finasteride-coated microneedles for treating alopecia. It aimed to enhance drug permeation while reducing scalp cell damage. The microneedles were confirmed to be coated, with a drug content of 98.80-1.60%. The drug release from the coated microneedles was 96.82%, compared to 93.93% from the marketed formulation. The f6 microneedle formulation followed zero-order release kinetics with a value of 0.737. Stability studies over 30 days showed minimal degradation, indicating the formulation's potential effectiveness and stability.
