TLDR Stopping finasteride can improve sperm count in infertile men.
This document is a case report of a male patient with azoospermia who had been taking finasteride for androgenic alopecia. After discontinuing the drug, the patient's semen volume increased immediately, and sperm concentration was up to more than 10 × 10%/mL 16 weeks after stopping finasteride. The authors suggest that drug cessation could be taken into consideration for infertile male patients with impaired semen parameters who are taking finasteride at a 1-mg dose. The study also suggests that finasteride may affect the semen in men with a preexisting abnormality.
