TLDR Female androgenic alopecia causes hair thinning in women, especially after menopause, and affects their mental well-being.
Female androgenic alopecia (FAGA) is a chronic, non-scarring hair loss condition primarily affecting post-menopausal women, characterized by reduced hair density on the crown and frontal scalp while sparing the front hairline. The pathogenesis is multi-factorial, with estrogens playing an unclear role. Differential diagnosis includes several other hair loss conditions. Although FAGA poses only cosmetic concerns, it has a significant negative psychological impact, necessitating long-term treatment. Light therapy is used for treatment, but its mechanism remains unclear.
