TLDR Intense Pulse Light effectively reduces hair growth in faun tail nevus.
This study examined 15 female patients with faun tail nevus, a rare form of localized lumbosacral hypertrichosis, out of 360,767 patients (0.004%) over four years. The patients, aged 3 to 26, underwent clinical examination and radio imaging, revealing diastematomyelia in 10 cases, spina bifida in 4, and both conditions in 1 case. Thirteen patients received Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment for six months, with sessions every four weeks at 30 J/cm². The treatment resulted in a highly significant reduction in hair growth (p > 0.0001), which was consistent after 18 months of follow-up. The study concluded that IPL is an effective alternative to traditional lasers for managing faun tail nevus.
