TLDR Early detection and aggressive treatment of severe lung complications in lupus are crucial to improve survival.
A 31-year-old female with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) presented with symptoms including alopecia, anorexia, and weight loss, and was diagnosed with class 3 lupus nephritis. She later developed diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH), a rare and severe complication of SLE, leading to acute respiratory distress and hemodynamic instability. Despite intensive treatment including antibiotics, methylprednisolone, plasmapheresis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), her condition deteriorated, resulting in cardiac arrest and death. The case highlighted the critical need for early detection and aggressive management of DAH in SLE patients to improve outcomes.
