TLDR Fat grafting is safe and effective in both active and stable phases of localized scleroderma.
This study examined the outcomes of autologous lipofilling in 11 patients with progressive hemifacial atrophy (PHA) and linear scleroderma (LS), focusing on whether the procedure's timing during the active or stable phase of the disease affected results. Among the 8 patients who underwent fat injections, 4 were treated during the active phase and 4 during the stable phase. The findings indicated similar outcomes in terms of symmetry, volume, and skin texture improvements for both groups. The study concluded that fat grafting during the active phase is not inferior to the stable phase, suggesting it is a safe option for correcting facial asymmetry in PHA and LS patients. The social aspect was noted as having the most significant negative impact on patients' quality of life.
