TLDR Melanoma and vitiligo patients have different gut fungi and bacteria compared to healthy people.
The study evaluated the gut microbiota composition in melanoma and vitiligo patients, comparing it to healthy controls. It found significant differences in the richness and relative abundance of fungal species in melanoma and vitiligo patients compared to controls, while bacterial microbiota showed no significant differences in richness and diversity. However, there were notable differences in bacterial abundance between the groups. The diversity of microbial species was influenced by specific prognostic features of melanoma and clinical parameters of vitiligo. These findings highlighted the importance of assessing fungal and bacterial microbiota in these patients and suggested the need for further research to explore potential therapeutic options.
