TLDR The ammonia-free hair dye is safe and improves hair shine, color, moisture, porosity, and combability.
The study evaluated a permanent hair dye designed to reduce allergic contact dermatitis and hair damage by replacing ammonia with monoethanolamine (MEA) and using toluene-2,5-diamine sulfate (PTD) instead of paraphenylenediamine (PPD). Fifty female subjects aged 21-91 participated, and the results showed significant improvements in hair appearance, such as shine, color vibrancy, moisturization, and combability, without safety or tolerability issues. The MEA-based dye minimized hair shaft damage and scalp irritation, with no increase in hair shedding, falling, or breakage. The study concluded that the dye effectively improved hair condition while maintaining safety.
