TLDR Topical tretinoin 0.025% cream is an effective treatment for Eruptive Vellus Hair Cysts in children.
In 2021, a case study was conducted on a 4-year-old girl diagnosed with Eruptive Vellus Hair Cysts (EVHCs), a rare skin condition characterized by small papules along the vellus hairs. Initially, the child was treated with oral isotretinoin for 2 months, which led to near-complete resolution of the lesions but was discontinued due to severe cheilitis. The treatment was then switched to topical tretinoin 0.025% cream applied daily. After 3 months of this treatment, there was significant improvement in the EVHC lesions, and the cream was continued for another 2 months. The child showed no recurrence of the lesions during regular follow-ups. The study concluded that topical retinoids, like tretinoin 0.025% cream, can be an effective and noninvasive treatment for EVHC in children.
