TLDR Prednisone may cause multiple skin nodules in lupus patients.
The document reported a case of a 46-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who developed multiple dermatofibromas (MDF) while being treated with prednisone. Initially diagnosed with SLE in 1989, she was treated with 50 mg/day prednisone, which improved her symptoms. However, after switching to hydroxychloroquine and later reintroducing prednisone due to a recurrence of symptoms, she developed several nodules on her limbs in 1996 while on a low dose of prednisone. A biopsy confirmed these nodules as dermatofibromas, a rare occurrence in immunosuppressed patients like those with SLE.
