Electrophoretic Variation of Hair Proteins

TLDR Most people have similar hair protein patterns, but a rare variant was found in two women.
The study conducted by E J Costa et al. in 1996 investigated the electrophoretic variation of hair proteins in 182 individuals, including some families. Hair proteins were extracted and analyzed using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, revealing 18 reproducible bands with molecular masses ranging from 10.0 to approximately 100 kDa. A "frequent profile" was identified in 180 individuals, characterized by 6 prominent bands, 4 of which were in the 40-70 kDa range typical of keratins, and 2 with lower molecular masses. An additional band was observed in 2 unrelated women, the significance of which was still under investigation at the time.

Procapil is marketed as a natural hair loss treatment but lacks strong evidence and is industry-biased. Minoxidil and Finasteride are the only FDA-approved treatments for androgenetic alopecia.

The user has been using topical finasteride, minoxidil, microneedling, and various supplements for hair loss without success, and is advised to reduce microneedling frequency and consider oral finasteride or dutasteride. It is noted that finasteride may not work for everyone, and some users suggest checking hormone levels and deficiencies.

community Are carbohydrates needed for hair growth

      in Research/Science  26 upvotes 1 year ago
A 47-year-old male experienced significant hair loss after losing 37 kg in 6 months on a low-carb diet and started taking biotin, zinc, iron, selenium, and spectral dcn-n. Replies suggest that while carbs are not directly needed for hair growth, they help regulate hormones and nutrient absorption, and rapid weight loss can also contribute to hair loss.
