New to Alopecia Areata? There is a guide in the encyclopedia. Read the guide → Studysummary This meta-analysis concluded that compound glycyrrhizin combined with conventional treatments improved hair regrowth in patients with alopecia areata, though it was associated with mild adverse events like edema. Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of compound glycyrrhizin (CG) in treating alopecia areata (AA) by analyzing 23 studies with 2,219 patients. The results showed that CG combined with conventional treatments significantly improved the cure rate and total efficacy rate compared to conventional treatments alone, as well as improved the Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score. Although some patients experienced adverse events such as oedema, elevated blood pressure, and gastrointestinal discomfort, the combination of CG and conventional treatments was deemed effective and safe for promoting hair regrowth in AA patients, with mild adverse effects.
