TLDR Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections can improve hair count, thickness, and strength in people with androgenic alopecia.
In 2016, a study conducted by Dhot PS, Singhal P, Sachin K, Sayal SK, Sehgal R, involved 10 patients with androgenic alopecia. Over three months, these patients received autologous Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections on the affected areas at two to three week intervals. The results indicated improvements in hair counts, thickness, root strength, and overall alopecia three months post-treatment. The study concluded that PRP is a cost-effective and promising treatment for androgenic alopecia with no significant adverse effects. However, the authors noted that despite PRP's strong theoretical basis for use in hair restoration, clinical evidence was still weak and further randomized, placebo-controlled, clinical trials were needed.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
