TLDR MK-R7 supplement with Cistanche Tubulosa and Laminaria Japonica extracts improved hair density and scalp health without adverse effects.
In a 2015 double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial, a supplement containing Cistanche Tubulosa and Laminaria Japonica extracts (MK-R7) was tested for its effectiveness in preventing patterned hair loss and improving scalp health. The study involved 45 participants who took 400 mg of MK-R7 daily for 16 weeks. The results indicated a significant increase in hair density and diameter in the test group compared to the control group at the end of the study period. Additionally, there were significant improvements in dandruff and scalp inflammation as assessed by both investigators and participants. No significant adverse effects were reported, suggesting that MK-R7 is a safe and promising treatment for scalp and hair health.
