TLDR Finasteride 1 mg/day effectively treats hair loss in men aged 18-41 and over 41; DEET lotion works better than herbal insect repellents; combined tattoo removal technique shows no extra benefits.
The study compared the efficacy of finasteride 1 mg/day on different age groups with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) using phototrichogram analysis. The retrospective analysis included 40 patients (25 aged 18 to 41 years and 15 aged over 41 years) receiving finasteride 1 mg/day. The results showed that finasteride 1 mg daily administration is an effective treatment in men aged over 41 years as well as 18 to 41 years to control AGA. The study on insect repellency action of over the counter herbal insect repellents lotions against 7.5% DEET lotion showed that 7.5% DEET lotion was superior compared to botanical insect repellants rosemary, citronella, and lemongrass lotions based on the mean number of mosquito biting/landing throughout the 8-hour observation period. The study on tattoo removal reported a case of a 26-year-old woman who underwent three sessions of Nd:YAG q-switched laser on the entire tattoo immediately followed by microneedling, but the combined technique did not demonstrate benefits over the q-switched alone.
